Let's say there's a feat for spending 300 nights at the summit of TWM. How about a special item that is unlocked by completing a specific feat in sandbox mode. I'd prefer to see something more 'progression' based (for want of a better word) than a simple scoreboard. 'Days played' was too simple and the leaderboards themselves were easily spoofed. Players who didn't enjoy being outside wouldn't get the best possible gear, but they wouldn't need it either given their preferred playstyle.īragging rights means some kind of score keeping. What if exceptional items only turned up in places that required the player to travel far from a warm shelter and bed? IMO it would be a nicely balanced approach. Old Spence Farmstead in Forlorn Muskeg is an example of time trading spent outside for exceptional loot (mukluks, cowichan sweater, etc). So how do you reward people for going outside? I can think of two approaches: exceptional loot, and bragging rights. It punishes people for staying inside instead of rewarding them for being outside. While I think Cabin Fever has helped cut back the cheese, IMO it's not the best solution because it's 'stick' not 'carrot'. Then Hinterland started replacing the cheese with better mechanics and the average begin to rise again. There were quite a few negative reviews around the lack of realism and challenge in 'just cheese it' and the Steam ratings for the game suffered. Hibernation was the Big Cheese at the time, but there was also naked wolf fighting, paralyzing a wolf by dropping a torch, taking your clothes off in blizzards, etc. When I first got TLD the advice for every problem in this forum was 'just cheese it'.
